The Choice
The time for accountability has arrived.

On January 23rd, Canadians will finally be able to hold the Liberals accountable. Accountable for the stolen money; accountable for the broken trust; accountable for all that did not get done because this government has been totally preoccupied with damage control; lurching from one scandal to another; always trying to avoid the people’s verdict.

For those Canadians seeking accountability, the question is clear: Which party can deliver the change of government that’s needed to ensure political accountability in Ottawa? The change of government that will replace old with new; entitlement with accountability; benefits for some with leadership for all.

Mainstream Canadians – hardworking people who pay their taxes and play by the rules – need a new government that will put their interests ahead of self interest. And this election provides them with a chance to tell Liberal Ottawa that they’ve had enough; that they’re tired of being forgotten; that it’s finally their turn.

This election is a chance for working families to send Ottawa a wake up call on job losses in sectors such as manufacturing, natural resources and agriculture. It’s a chance for men and women to say they’ve had it with Liberals enriching themselves while failing to reduce health care waiting lists, tackle violent crime or deal with congestion and gridlock.

It’s a chance for seniors – the people who built Canada – to say they’ve had it with unfair taxes, poor service from government departments and a Liberal government that had the nerve to wipe out billions in seniors’ retirement assets and income by launching an unnecessary and greedy attack on income trusts.

It’s a chance for small business people to say we’re tired of watching Liberals cut sponsorship red tape for themselves only to make it harder and harder for entrepreneurs to do business and get ahead. And it’s a chance for young people, particularly those who do not go to university, to send a message that they’re tired of always being ignored.

Finally, it’s a chance for all taxpayers to say “it was our money” and “we want it back”.

Over the coming weeks, we will unveil our plans for Canada and Canadians.

Plans to clean up government and bring accountability back to Ottawa. Plans to provide opportunity for all Canadians to work hard and get ahead. Plans to help our seniors preserve their hard-won gains. Plans to make our communities cleaner, healthier and safer. And plans to strengthen our nation’s unity, defend her sovereignty and advance Canada’s national interests.

The Liberals, make no mistake about it, will campaign as they always do. They will spread fear and lies, and make sweeping promises - promises we know they’ll never keep. Sadly, after 12 years in office, it’s all they’ve got. Canadians know better and they deserve better.

On January 23rd Canada faces a clear choice. A clear choice between old and new; entitlement and accountability; benefits for some and leadership for all. Only one party can deliver the change of government that’s needed to bring political accountability to Ottawa. Stand up for accountability. Stand up for change. And stand up for Canada.

Stand Up for Accountability
Let’s clean up government

Canadians have been let down by 12 years of Liberal scandal. We need a change in government to restore accountability and end the culture of entitlement. Canadians must be able to trust our government and know that our tax dollars are well spent.

A Conservative government will provide the leadership to stand up for honesty and integrity in government. Our first piece of legislation will be a Federal Accountability Act, a sweeping reform plan to clean up government.

The Conservative Party will stand up for:

• Ending the influence of big money in politics by banning corporate and union political donations and limiting individual donations to $1000.

• Tough new lobbying rules and an end to the revolving door that allows former ministers, political aides, and top bureaucrats to turn around and lobby the government.

• Giving more power and teeth to independent watchdogs like the Auditor General and Ethics Commissioner, protecting whistleblowers from reprisal, and strengthening access to information laws to give citizens the right to know.

• Protecting criminal prosecutions from political interference.

Stand Up for Opportunity
Let’s cut taxes so individuals and families can get ahead

After twelve years of Liberal government, Canadians have seen their take-home pay frozen or actually decline because of Liberal taxes.

A new government must create more opportunity for individuals, families, and small businesses to get ahead. Under the Liberals, high taxes and red tape have held back growth and prosperity.

A new government must reduce taxes on middle-class families, lower taxes on small business, and help our farmers and resource industries to compete in the world.

The Conservative Party will stand up for:
• An immediate tax cut to benefit all Canadians.
• Supporting young Canadians by encouraging apprentices to learn skilled trades and businesses to hire new apprentices.
• Supporting Canada’s farmers and resource industries such as forestry, fishing, and mining.

Stand Up for Security
Let’s crack down on crime and keep neighbourhoods safe

Under the Liberals, gun, drug, and gang crime has increased and border, port, and airport security has been soft. A new government must toughen criminal justice, impose mandatory minimum sentences for serious crimes, and strengthen our border security.

The Conservative Party will stand up for:
• Tougher sentences and closing legal loopholes.
• Ending the wasteful long-gun registry and using the savings to hire more front-line police officers.
• Protecting women and children from sex offenders and fighting child pornography.
• Strengthening border security and cracking down on crime by non-citizens.

Stand Up for Families
Let’s cut medical wait times and ensure choice in child care

Families are the building block of society. Yet Liberal policies have undermined family and made it harder to get the services, such as health care, that you need. A new government must help parents financially with the cost of raising children, cut medical waiting lists, and protect seniors’ hard-won gains.

The Conservative Party will stand up for:
• Choice in child care: We will support parents whether they choose formal day care, a babysitter, neighbourhood child care, or having one parent stay at home.
• Patients: We will deal with the treatment backlogs that the Supreme Court says contravene the Charter of Rights.
• Seniors: We will help to protect seniors’ hard won gains and ensure better service for seniors.

Stand Up for Our Communities
Let’s build better roads and transit and keep our environment clean

The strength of Canada is our people and our communities. Sadly, the Liberals have ignored the role of government in building strong communities. A new government must invest more money in better roads and infrastructure, a strong immigration system that meets our economic needs and helps families, and a clean and healthy environment.

The Conservative Party will stand up for:
• New or rebuilt municipal roads, bridges and other infrastructure.
• Giving public transit riders a tax credit to cover the cost of their monthly transit passes.
• Action to ensure clean air, land, and water.
• An immigration system that meets Canada’s economic needs and helps keep families together.

Stand Up for Canada
Let’s keep Canada strong and united

Canada needs a government that will stand up for our values of freedom, fairness, and compassion. That means a democratic government at home that respects all of our provinces, and defending our national interests and values abroad through a stronger military and a tougher stand on international trade disputes.

The Conservative Party will stand up for:
• Better democracy.
• A strong Canadian military that has the resources to protect us at home and meet our obligations abroad.
• A renewed partnership with the provinces and territories.
• Defending foresters, farmers, and other primary producers against unfounded trade challenges and opening up new markets in the Americas and the Asia-Pacific region.

Garry's View

“The good people of Yorkton-Melville deserve to be served by a government that will hear their concerns and respect their hard-earned dollars.”

Garry Breitkreuz, has served the riding of Yorkton-Melville for 12 years. He was first elected by the constituents of Yorkton-Melville in October 1993, and was re-elected in the 1997, 2000 and 2004 general elections.

“The Liberals have repeatedly disappointed and disrespected Canadians through money-losing scandals and useless programs. They refuse to hear Canadians on the issues of traditionally-defined marriages and on marijuana legalization. That disrespect will be stopped with the election of the Conservative Party of Canada.”
