A new Conservative government offers positive change

January 17, 2006

Winds of change spread in the Quebec City region

Lévis – Conservative Leader Stephen Harper today called on Quebec to send a strong slate of Conservative candidates to join him in Ottawa so that together they can implement the change Quebecers and Canadians want.

“As Prime Minister and with the backing of Conservative MPs from Quebec, I will sit down with the Premier of Quebec and the other premiers, and we will solve the fiscal imbalance once and for all,” said Harper. “I could go on speaking about all the things a new Conservative government would be able to do for the people of Quebec,” Harper continued, while listing off priorities such as the Federal Accountability Act, cutting the GST, and a Choice in Child Care Allowance.

He specifically asked that Quebec City area candidates Steven Blaney, Josée Verner, Maxime Bernier, Jacques Gourde, and Christian Paradis, along with others across the province, be given the mandate to implement real change.

“Instead of the tired old choice between corruption and separation, Quebecers now have the option of voting for a clean party that can actually get things done for the Province of Quebec,” said Harper. “The Bloc Québécois can talk about Quebec’s priorities, but they simply cannot get anything done in Ottawa.”

Harper concluded by inviting Quebecers to join him: “The occasion for real change doesn’t happen often in the life of a country. Together we can write a new chapter in the history of our country. We can give Canadians and Quebecers a government that they will be proud of, and in which they can have confidence.”
