"WASTE REPORT" #3 SHOWS LIBERALS DON'T HAVE THEIR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT  

"Wasted millions in grants and hand outs should be going to health care and education."  

Ottawa - Today, Garry Breitkreuz, MP for Yorkton-Melville, made available copies of Reform's third "Waste Report" prepared by his colleague, John Williams, Reform MP for St. Albert in Alberta. "People concerned about the Liberal government's cuts to health and education transfers to the Province of Saskatchewan are calling and writing," said Breitkreuz. "The Liberals should cut the billions they are wasting on political slush funds before they cut our most cherished social programs." 

When you read this "Waste Report", you just have to ask WHY?: 

• Why did 9 federal government departments pay $5,690 to fix peoples personal clothing? 
• Why did the Liberals spend over $1 million to send 17 MPs, 1 Senator and staff on 6 junkets? 
• Why did the Indian Affairs hand out over $815 million in social assistance grants in 1995? 
• Why did the Liberals approve a 50% increase in bilingualism bonuses ($86.6 million)? 
• Why did the Liberals give a $105,289 grant to the Canadian Banker's Association? 
• Why did the Liberals give the Canadian Bar Association a hand out of $277,520? 
• Why did the Liberals give Price Waterhouse $245,000 to further participation in Canada Day? 
• Why did the Liberals spend $2 million to advertise the new $2 coin -- you mean we had a choice? 
• Why did the Liberals give Ford Motor Company over $5 million for training? 
• Why did the Liberals give Chrysler Canada Ltd $3,000,000 for training? 
• Why did the Liberals give Dehavilland Inc. almost $3.5 million for training? 
• Why did the Liberals give GE Canada over a million dollars "for provision of work experience"? 
• Why did the Liberals give $180,031 for retail management training to T. Eaton Ltd.? 
• Why did the Liberals give MacMillan Bloedel Ltd. over $1 million for "economic adjustment"? 

Breitkreuz was appalled at the waste, "I thought big corporations, bankers and lawyers could finance their own training programs and finance their own associations. There is only one reason why the Liberals hand out taxpayers' money so freely -- that's because they expect something in return. I'll bet the contributions to the Liberal Party of Canada by these corporations would show an excellent return on 'investment', said the Saskatchewan MP. "This is slush fund politics at its worst. This waste of tax dollars is a disgrace and a slap in the face to every hard working taxpayer in Canada. I came to Ottawa to put an end to this type of garbage!"
