REFORM ISSUES FIRST "WASTE REPORT"  

"The Liberals keep giving your money away, just like the Conservatives did before them."  

Ottawa - Today Garry Breitkreuz, MP for Yorkton-Melville, made available copies of a report prepared by his colleague John Williams, Reform MP for St. Albert in Alberta. "The Waste Report will make Saskatchewan taxpayers' blood boil," said Breitkreuz. Almost $11 billion in grants and contributions in one year is absolutely appalling but when you read who got what, it shakes your faith in government." 

"The people, companies and organizations who receive these grants are not accountable for them and aren't subject to audit. What's even more amazing is that we were forced to use formal Access to Information Requests to get the full details on this type of government spending. Only 14 of the twenty departments we asked complied with our requests," reported Breitkreuz. 

On behalf of all Canadians Reformers have to ask: 

• Why is the Canadian government granting the U.S. Department of Energy $35,661.47? 
• Why is the government giving the company building the new home of the Ottawa NHL Team $6 million? 
• Why is the government giving The T. Eaton Company Ltd. and Sears Canada Inc. $5,000.00 each? 
• Why is the government giving the Canadian Chamber of Commerce $4.5 million? 
• Why is the government giving the Canadian Labour Congress over $5 million? 
• Why is the government giving Mark's Work Wearhouse $99,000.00? 
• Why is the government giving American Express $17,000.00? 
• Why is the P.E.I. Association of Chiefs of Police getting $65,997.00? 
• Why is the Department of Health granting Prisoners with HIV/AIDS Support Action Network $63,104.00? 
• Why did Corrections Canada and the Department of Health buy 620,640 condoms for $139,025.10? 

"I am absolutely disgusted by this colossal waste of money. I hope Canadians are as sickened by this raid on the public purse as I am. It's time to put a Taxpayers' Protection Act in place, unfortunately only Reformers are proposing such a measure," concluded Breitkreuz.
