Anderson calls for increase in initial prices OTTAWA – Official Opposition Critic for the Canadian Wheat Board, David L. Anderson, called on the government once again yesterday, to raise the initial grain prices received from the Canadian Wheat Board. This was the fourth time in five weeks that a Member of the Conservative party has made this an issue in the House of Commons. “I believe this issue is important enough that I will continue to pressure the government until it increases the initial grain prices received by Western Canadian farmers,” stated Anderson. “This government has indicated, through its inaction, that this is not an important issue and I know producers would disagree. “The Minister was, yet again, unwilling to act when I called for an increase (on November 17, 2005),” continued Anderson. “Farmers are going broke. I will continue to ask for this increase on behalf of farmers until this government responds by giving farmers back their own money. “Without a doubt, this Liberal Government will be throwing out election promises for farmers shortly. However, I know that farmers would sooner have their own money in their hands than Liberal promises floating in the air.” -30- |
